A Gathering of Black Tech Founders and Innovators
This past week, the coastal city of Halifax, Nova Scotia, played host to the Rep Matters Breakfast Club—a signature event designed to bring together Black tech founders, innovators, and entrepreneurs in a dynamic and collaborative space. Held at the scenic waterfront venue, the gathering was a morning filled with insightful conversation, networking, and inspiration.
In a province known for its strong community ties, resilience, and historical presence of Black Canadians, Halifax proved to be the perfect place to expand this series. The energy and passion displayed during the Breakfast Club reaffirmed the importance of these gatherings, especially in regions where representation in tech is still developing.
Power in Numbers
A key theme of the Breakfast Clubs is the power of community. Whether you’re just starting a new venture or scaling an established business, the challenges faced by Black entrepreneurs can often feel isolating. The Breakfast Club aims to break down those barriers by fostering connections between like-minded individuals who understand these struggles and triumphs firsthand.
A unique element of the Rep Matters Breakfast Club is its commitment to bringing together a broad coalition of individuals who all have a stake in advancing the Black tech community. Alongside Black founders, the event welcomed allies from the broader tech ecosystem, including investors, accelerators, incubators, and corporate partners. This inclusive approach underscored the idea that building a thriving and diverse tech sector requires collective action.Â
Rep Matters plans to expand the initiative across other cities in Canada, ensuring that Black tech founders everywhere have a space to connect, collaborate, and thrive.
What’s Next?
Looking ahead, Rep Matters has a full slate of programming planned, including mentorship opportunities, more networking events, and workshops designed to tackle the unique challenges Black entrepreneurs face in the tech industry. If the Halifax event was any indication, the future is bright, and the community is growing stronger by the day.
For those who couldn’t attend, we’ve captured the essence of the event in a series of photographs that highlight the connections, pitches, and energy that filled the room. Stay tuned for more details on upcoming events, and don’t miss your chance to be a part of this growing movement.
